Campione d’Italia

Campione d’Italia is an Italian enclave inside Switzerland on the shores of Lake Lugano. Its inhabitants are citizens of Italy but enjoy the efficiency and infrastructure of Switzerland’s Canton Ticino. Residents use the franc instead of the euro, pay Swiss tax and have access to Switzerland’s healthcare and schooling system. The pocket-sized territory survives economically thanks to its casino and locals continue to live culturally as Italians.
